JACKSON & GOCHER |
A brief history of Jackson & Gocher Hire Centre
Jackson & Gocher Hire Centre emerged from the old building firm Jackson & Gocher Ltd. The building firm was founded in 1949 by Mr Jackson and Mr Gocher. Mr Jackson left the company fairly early in its history, but Mr Gocher, a well known local, maintains his involvement right to this day. Between 1949 and the early 1970's the building company was very successful, and a lot of local houses around Farncombe were built by Jackson & Gocher. Towards the end of the 1970's the building side was winding down, but the tool hire was just beginning. At first, it mainly bought tools for the building company to use, but as time went on the hire company started to hire out to other tradesmen and companies. With a new opening and opportunity developing, Francis Harrison built up the tool hire side to where it is today.
The company itself is still owned by Mr Gocher and is still very much based around his family, with his son-in-law, his niece, his great niece and his grandson all, working for the company.
Francis Harrison recently left the company, and it is now being run by David Eckles.
