Tips on Breaking Masonry and Concrete

Major outside jobs, the ones we have put off during the winter, often involve breaking up masonry or concrete, which, with sledgehammers and pickaxes may be effective, but are hard work and time consuming.

At Jackson and Gocher Hire Centre we can advise on a wide range of machines to tackle your particular job. Not all electric breakers (sometimes referred to as Kangos) do the same job, so getting the correct tool is half the battle.

Demolishing masonry requires forward planning to decide how to cope with the rubble produced and keep your work area clear and safe. When breaking concrete resist the temptation to break large chunks off, it is easier to take small pieces off from the edges and work in from there. Of course don’t forget to wear safety goggles, gloves, and ear protection.

Jackson & Gocher staff will always be pleased to help and advise on any DIY jobs and recommend which are the most suitable tools to use. See our advert for details.
