Tips on using dehumidifiers.
Autumn is the time of year when the atmosphere starts to get quite damp. Drying newly plastered walls or cleaning up after floods and leaks can be a real problem.
Dehumidifiers have been designed to help solve these problems. They will absorb moisture from the air and speed the drying process. To work efficiently, dehumidifiers need a regular temperature of 16 degrees and should be placed in a room with doors and windows closed to avoid drawing in excess moisture from outside. A small heater (or central heating) helps to keep the air circulating. Gas heaters should not be used as these give off water vapour, which slows down the drying process. Electric heaters are best.
A dehumidifier works by drying moist air, freezing it to trap the moisture and thawing rapidly to produce water, which is then drained off.
There are various sizes of heaters and dehumidifiers available for hire and Jackson & Gocher staff will help you decide which is the best machine to use. They will be happy to advise on this or any other job around the house or garden. Telephone 01483 527000 for further details.
